Lovin' Thorsten and Tami and The Solid Wheel

One just can't help believing that Thorsten Kaye is a very special person. Trinity Restaurant in Hoboken hosted a book signing for the creme de la creme of fan gatherings organized by the moderators of Thorsten's official site. Thorsten was true to form ever the invitingly warm object of affection along with the illustrator of his book of poetry for children, Tami Evans Foster who is no slouch in the charm department either.

There is more information available on his official website. The event was the great occasion it promised to be.

Should you want to buy copy for you and yours. Go here. It's a PayPal link.

The Greatest of These is Love

Hello Good People,

I am here to let you know that I have registered for AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2009, the 25th Anniversary of this magnificent event. HIV/AIDS is a very important issue to me as those of you know me can attest to. As usual I have set an ambitious fundraising goal. I want to do as much as I can to make a difference in the lives of men, women, and children affected by HIV and AIDS. Young people are still getting infected at alarmingly high rates. Recent reports regarding “fatalistic youth” support the issue. Follow This Link to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support AIDS Walk Los Angeles

Lovin' John Pagano

As this is being written John Pagano is on the Italian peninsula making musical magic with legend Burt Bacharach. Come October 15th he will be expressing that magic downstairs at H-Wood joining fellow Rhode Islander, David Moretti for POZ's fund-raiser for AIDS Walk Los Angeles.

Go here to read about his great CD
.

John Pagano is a name familiar to many fans of Burt Bacharach as the male vocalist with Burt’s band. On his new CD, Pure Imagination, Pagano steps out on his own with a collection of classic songs in the timeless style of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Chet Baker. Backed by a 40-piece orchestra, Pagano lends his vocal talents to 12 songs including “Let’s Fall in Love,” “Night and Day,” “Time After Time,” “Call Me Irresponsible” and the title track, written by Bricusse-Newley as the main theme for the film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”

Of special interest to Bacharach fans, Pure Imagination includes two tracks produced by Bacharach and featuring Bacharach himself on piano–”Any Day Now” and “This Guy’s In Love With You.” Pagano also performs Bacharach’s classic “Wives and Lovers” on the CD. Lovin' David Moretti

We never tire of singing this man's praises, especially when he will be attending his third POZ fund-raiser come October 15th at H-Wood. It is a very good thing, because he is very easy to be around. So once again:

David Moretti does indeed look like an Italian movie star as someone once opined. Perhaps it’s because his surname comes from Italy. Wherever his origins are, the man seems to be doing all the right things. He is the star of here! TV's The Lair and the purveyor of his own web log on gaywired.com. From his website: [he likes] the idea of being part of the new movement in gay television. "I'm proud to be part of a show that is entertaining our culture. Gay heroes and villains are a concept not often explored and here! should be commended for being the first network to make it happen." Since debuting on The Lair, Moretti has also appeared as a guest star on Dante's Cove.
He admits to being happier now than ever before. "I have the best of both worlds. I get to step outside of myself and play different characters on the set each day and then when I head home, I actually respect the person I see in the mirror." Speaking of respect, he has earned some in these parts. He attended POZ's West Coast fund-raiser last October and now he will be on hand for Love Out Loud New York on May 13th. Ganzo! Gaiardo! Bono!

Love Out Loud for the Goddess Diana & Kim Roots

“In 18 BC the Roman Emperor Augustus declared that all of the month of August would be dedicated to the Feriae Augusti, a series of festivals and celebrations; the most important was held on the 13th, and was dedicated to Diana, the Goddess whose task it was to oversee the woods, the phases of the Moon, and Maternity. The services, which were celebrated in Diana's temple on the Aventine, was one of the few occasions in which Romans from all walks of life, masters and slaves alike, mingled freely, and the women, who made offerings to the Goddess throughout the year in the hope that their labor would be safe and happy, offered prayers to Lucina, the guise Diana assumed when she was acting as protectoress of Labor.”

“Aventine Hill, Diana's temple still had an ancient image that depicted her as a many-breasted mother of nature--similar to Diana of Ephesus. Women flocked to her temple at Aventine Hill to request aid in child bearing … Diana is complex and rich indeed: she was known as Diana Trivia: Diana on the earth, Luna in the sky, and Proserpine in the underworld. At her shrine at Nemi, near Aricia, she formed another trinity with her servant and assistant midwife, Egeria the water nymph, and Virbius, a woodland God. One of her epithets was Diana Nemorisis or Diana of the Grove. Diana's feast day … was deemed to be the birthday of the Goddess. Reportedly women would each bake a cake for the household in Diana's honor, around which white candles were set. A procession of women, with hounds on leashes, would journey to Aricia to offer thanks in Diana's sacred grove and request the Goddess's continued aid and a harvest free of storms. Diana's festival in mid August was a holiday for Roman slaves. Whole villages [in modern Italy] participate or watch the procession in which the image of the Virgin is carried through the streets.”

Papa Pacelli [Pius XII] proclaimed 58 years ago:

“Hence the revered Mother of God, from all eternity joined in a hidden way with Jesus Christ in one and the same decree of predestination, immaculate in her conception, a most perfect virgin in her divine motherhood, the noble associate of the divine Redeemer who has won a complete triumph over sin and its consequences, finally obtained, as the supreme culmination of her privileges, that she should be preserved free from the corruption of the tomb and that, like her own Son, having overcome death, she might be taken up body and soul to the glory of heaven where, as Queen, she sits in splendor at the right hand of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages.”

Connecting Mary to the ancient tradition of the Goddess is one of the easiest things to do for those in the know. It would take up a lot of time and space to do so here, but we’ll touch on it. At least we’ll connect this feast to Diana. Ferragosto in Italy which is celebrated this day – the ides of August – is the essential Summer Holiday. The major urban centers there virtually close down for the entire month of August – what a very civilized thing to do! It is ostensibly in honour of the Mother of God. Italy is ostensibly a Roman Catholic nation, yet this celebration goes deeper and farther than mere Xtian observance.

Liberated women universally follow Diana as their mother and protector. The first John Paul, Papa Luciani, declared that we must not only think of God as our Father but also as our Mother. His papacy lasted only 34 days. Assume, good people, assume.

Kim Roots of Soaps in Depth is an avid runner and is doing so during the Ferragosto and in honor of Diana, who is also the Goddess of the Hunt.

I'm running the New York City Half-Marathon on Sunday, August 16. The
13.1-mile course begins in Central Park, flows through Times Square and down
the Westside Highway to end in Battery Park. I¹m running to raise money for
Team For Kids, the New York Roadrunners charity that fights childhood
obesity, especially in underserved communities.

My personal fundraising goal is $1,000, and I¹m trying to meet it by the end
of July. If you¹d care to contribute, go here.

You¹ll need my last name (Roots) and my race number (424410) to contribute.

Thanks so much from a former fat kid who can personally attest to the
empowering spirit of running!

The date of POZ's third annual fund-raiser for AIDS Walk Los Angeles, “Love Out Loud,” has yet to be announced. Special guests are bound to include actress Ilene Kristen (One Life to Live), Sherri Lewis (Straight Girl in a Queer World), Ted Detwiler (Sordid Lives), David Moretti (The Lair), singer, John Pagano (Pure Imagination) … Last year’s party at East/West Lounge was memorable due in no small measure to soap maven Michael Fairman, Patrika Darbo (Days of Our Lives), Ted, Sherri and Ilene. The entertainment industry has lent overwhelming support through their efforts to help those with HIV AIDS. POZ events seem to get bigger and brighter every year. It was so gratifying to have so many celebrities show up last year from CBS, NBC, ABC and here!
